Wellness - individual

Q & A with Vivien Triz

Vivien Triz – Registered Nurse – Gold Coast University Hospital ED

1. Would you say you pay attention to your Wellness?

I think I do. If I feel stressed, out, I like to take some time out for myself.

2. What is your experience of how your wellness at work translates into how you do your job?

If I feel tired or something outside of work has upset me, then I find that it can impact how I work. When I am in a happy mood, I find my mood at work and my patient care is amazing.

3. Do you think you can tell when your teammates are well (or unwell)? How does this affect the service you deliver as a team? How does it affect your enjoyment of your shift?

Yes and No. Some people hide their emotions very well. We have a high turnover of staff so that sometimes I don’t know who they all are and what their “normal” is. Sometimes, if a fellow team mate is “unwell”, it affects me because their ability to perform effectively is affected.

4. Can you give us one idea of something you have done at work (or would like to do) to promote staff wellness in any way?

I initiated and produced the oneED newsletter! Not everyone has social media and I thought this was a nice way for everyone in the department to get a smile on their face when they open their email and read about the people and activity in their workplace.
